Connection Comes First at Seattle's Last Tuesday Happy Hour
Last month, YPCSeattle gathered at Rocco’s in Belltown for its monthly Last Tuesday Happy Hour. Rocco’s offered the perfect setting to unwind, grab a fresh slice and connect without the pressure of a formal networking event.

Walking through the doors, guests were met with the scent of fresh pizza and a display of slices near the entrance. Small groups gathered around tables while warm, low lighting gave the dining area an intimate feel.
Just beyond the counter, a staircase tucked into the corner leads upstairs, where YP attendees were already leaning across tables, laughing and sharing slices. There were no name tags, Sharpies or structured introductions. Just an opportunity to meet people.

PURPOSE
Connect young professionals with one another and Seattle’s local business community by gathering at Rocco’s, a Hispanic-owned Belltown venue whose welcoming approach to hospitality made it a fitting place to build relationships while spotlighting local entrepreneurship during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Connecting at your own pace
The informal setting left plenty of room to connect at your own pace. With conversations already underway, attendees could settle in, listen for a while or join discussions that piqued their interest.
As the evening continued, people moved between tables together, turning one conversation into another and gradually bridging separate groups. Some attendees had discovered YP through social media and decided to attend for the first time, while longtime attendees chose events based on the venue, food or activity.
For returning attendees, meeting new people was already part of the expectation. As one attendee explained, when the setting is right, people show up and the connections follow.
More than job titles
Conversations drifted through nearly everything except job titles. Attendees talked about where they grew up, places they had lived and the journeys that eventually brought them to Washington. People discovered shared hometowns and unexpected commonalities.
One conversation even became a playful guessing game before an attendee revealed that they worked in big tech. Others shared stories about changing industries and following career paths that looked different from where they started.
Sometimes networking is less about making an immediate professional exchange and more about building rapport. Events like Last Tuesday leave room for both. There may not always be an obvious professional connection at first, and that is part of the point.
As the event came to a close, attendees lingered upstairs, exchanged business cards and ordered pizzas to take home. The night started with pizza and introductions, but it ended with new contacts, familiar faces and perhaps a few more reasons to get out and explore Seattle.
Thank you to Rocco’s for welcoming us, and to everyone who joined us for an evening of pizza, conversation and connection.
