About the Event

What is Content Club? It’s like a book club, but bite-size...and more fun.

In this new YPIN event series, we’ll organize informal gatherings to discuss an everyday topic from a global perspective. We’ll provide content for you to read, watch or listen to before the event (articles, podcasts, videos, Tiktoks, shows, maybe excerpts from a book or two). Take in as much or as little as you can, bring recommendations of your own, and come ready to discuss. At the end, we’ll provide a collection of your recommendations and thoughts so that you can revisit these resources.

This month, we’re discussing financial literacy since April is National Financial Literacy Month! We’re taking a look at how we in the U.S., as well as in other countries, approach acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to manage personal finances effectively and how our society and culture dictate the way we spend and save.

Money is personal and a topic that folks tend to avoid, but the more we talk about it, the better equipped we are to understand how to save, earn, borrow, invest, and protect it.

Join us in a casual discussion sharing personal stories surrounding money, how the United States and other countries around the world approach financial literacy, and some resources that have been helpful in our money journeys!

  • Why financial literacy in the US sucks - A video on how schools in the US don’t require that students know how to manage their finances once they graduate.
  • Her First 100k: How to Spend Like a Feminist Podcast episode - Ways in which you can spend your money wisely in ways that uplift your community.
  • Do Finances Stress You Out? - An analysis into your relationship with your finances and how you can change your mindset to a more positive one.
  • We asked people from different countries what they earned… - Pay transparency in other countries
  • How culture affects financial decisions
  • How I fell for an Amazon scam call
  • It Doesn’t Have to be Terrible Podcast - Various financial topic podcasts to explore…
  • Vivian, Your Rich BFF  - @yourrichbff explains how to negotiate your medical bills. Her page also has advice on flights, savings accounts, retirement and credit cards.
